Day 4, Wed, Oct 20, 2021

 Wed, Oct 20, 2021

Today we will travel downtown Charleston to do some sight seeing...

I took a picture of the street signs so if I forgot where we parked I'd be able to check the picture to figure out which streets we were on.

Our tour guide is from Chicago. He moved to Charleston in 1996.
He was very knowledgeable about the history of Charleston and made his presentation very interesting.

I was very impressed with this porch, so I took a picture.

Another view of our horse-drawn carriage tour.

You know what?
This is the picture I thought I took in Savannah. Well, it wasn't in Savannah, it was in Charleston.
How about that?

If you look really close you can see the USS Yorktown Aircraft Carrier in the distance.

This is the Pineapple Fountain in downtown Charleston.
I can't tell you the history behind this fountain, but it sure looks cool.

We had someone take our picture, so they took two.
But, to me, they both turned out just great!

We traveled over the Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge to Patriot's Point on Mt. Pleasant island.

Approaching the USS Yorktown Aircraft Carrier
Duration: 00:00:15 sec.

Another great view of the Arthur Revenel Jr. Bridge.

The USS Yorktown 10 Aircraft Carrier.

Next to it is the Destroyer battleship.

The end of the runway on the deck of the Yorktown

Looking the opposite direction...

Here's the view of the submarine as seen from the back of the USS Yorktown Deck

I saw this ocean faring vessel and thought it was worth a photo shoot.

I noticed the number on the Destroyer is the same number as our first house on Illinois Street in Wheaton "724".

A view of all three ships -
USS Yorktown 10 Aircraft Carrier, Destroyer Battleship, and the submarine
Duration: 00:00:10 sec.

Inside the Control Room of the submarine.
Can you see me in the mirror?

The kitchen.

A look down the "hall".

The mess hall.

More gadgets and controls.

The inside of a torpedo.

Exiting the submarine where  you can see all three nautical vessels.

Jan is waiting for me to finish the self-guided tour of the submarine.

I went back on board the USS Yorktown and took a few cool pictures.

This is called "the bridge".

Looking down at the hanger floor from the bridge.

Another shot from the bridge.

From the bridge looking down the back of the hanger deck.

And at the destroyer next door.

Back at the bridge looking out.

Finally the escalator taking us from the bridge to the hanger.

These two kind men were working the information desk.
I came back to try to see the bridge at about 4:50pm.
They let me go even though the operation closes down at 5pm.

After visiting Patriot's Point we made arrangements to see Greg Meyer.
Since he knew best how to find the restaurant, I let him drive.

We had a real treat with the sunset tonight!
Spectacular wouldn't you say?

Greg took this picture.

And this one...

And finally, this one too.
What a great day!

End of Day 2 (minus the travel days)
