Day 9, Mon, Oct 25, 2021

Since I blew it on the way down capturing pictures of our road trip, I thought I'd go a little overboard on our return road trip.
I hope you enjoy the show.
Before we leave I have a little surprise for you...
I saw this little guy by accident on the floor, but he jumped away before I even knew what it was. Then, as we were leaving, I spotted him on the wall.
Here's what it looked like when I saw him on the wall.
Our stuff all packed and ready to go. We were planning to leave by 6am. We left at 6:04am.
On our return trip Jan and I will try to capture the scenery AND the roads we'll take back home. Here you can see the beautiful clouds in the distance and note we're on Interstate 26.
This picture was taken to try to capture the fall colors.
We are now on Interstate 40. We left Interstate 26 in Ashville NC and will now travel on Interstate 40 to Knoxville TN
More beautiful scenery.
Our next Interstate after 40 will be in Knoxville where we'll catch Interstate 75 North to Lexington KY.
Now we're getting into the Smokey Mountains.
I took this picture because I thought the banks of this lake were quite interesting.
On our way to Lexington KY via Interstate 75.
Veering right to stay on Interstate 75 North to Lexington.
Almost there...
The ramp to Interstate 75.
And then the weather changed. Guess who was driving during this section? Yes, Jan was driving and she did a great job keeping her cool.
I took a few of these pictures to see if I could capture the rock cuts and the fall colors.
The rain has subsided and we're back to our normal speed - about 78 MPH.
Now it's time to take Interstate 64 West from Lexington to Louisville KY where we'll catch Interstate 65 North which runs the length of the state of Indiana from South to North.
Time to take the longest stretch of our trip diagonally through the state of Indiana.
Once we got through Indiana it was completely dark so we didn't take pictures of the route changes from Interstate 65 North to Interstate 80 West to Interstate 355 North to Interstate 88 West to Rt. 59 North to Joliet Rd. North to Rt. 38 West to Kirk Rd. North to Rt. 64 West to Dunham Rd. North to Fox Chase Blvd. West to Whittington Course West to Home!
It took a total of 15 hours for the return trip.
We left at 6:04am this morning
and Arrived at our home at 8:05pm.
When you take into account the 1 hour time change that is almost 15 hours on the nose.
Here's some mileage figures.
One way = 960.2 miles
Round trip = 1,920.5 miles
Driving during the week = 409.1 miles
Total Trip miles = 2,329.6 miles
I could breakdown a lot more details, but I think this should prove that I'm such a nerd.
I also think I should stop because I already know you think I'm a nut, but at least, if I stop, you'll not think I'm crazy.
Great great trip. Went through all the days and so happy you had a special time. Maybe if I move back to USA I can take many road trips similar. Love ya
